In 2014, when it was the 70thanniversary of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s death, Shen Jingdong started to create the paintings and sculptures of his “the Little Prince” series.</p><i class="pic-con"><img src="//himg2.huanqiucdn.cn/attachment2010/2018/0808/19/08/20180808070846713.jpg?imageView2/2/w/1260" data-alt="小王子与狐狸 The Little Prince and the Fox"/></i><p>100×110cm</p><p>布面油画 Oil on canvas</p><p>2017</p><p>作为一位在60年代中国出生的军人和艺术家，沈敬东经历了很多，因此他发现了自己的艺术风格。服役了十多年后，有着糖果质感的传统“红色”士兵的艺术形象让他在2002年名声大噪。从此沈敬东一直使用这种风格来描绘各式各样的人物，无论是伟人还是凡人。这种幽默风格往往让他的作品显得可爱且幼稚，与此同时这恰好讽刺并戏谑了一些严肃的人物或特殊的时代。</p><p>As a soldier and artist born in the 1960s, China, Shen Jingdong has experienced a lot, as a result that he found his own artistic style. After more than ten years of service, the art figure of traditional “red” soldier with candy texture let him celebrated in 2002. Thereafter Shen continuously used this style to describe kinds of characters, no matter the great or nobody. This humorous style always makes hisworks look cute and naïve, and, meanwhile, it satires and banters some serious characters or special times, precisely.</p><i class="pic-con"><img src="//himg2.huanqiucdn.cn/attachment2010/2018/0808/19/09/20180808070907569.jpg?imageView2/2/w/1260" data-alt="接圣诞老人 Picking Santa Claus up"/></i><p>100×120cm</p><p>布面油画 Oil on canvas</p><p>2017</p><p>“小王子”这个主题的初创则是个巧合。 2014年，一位朋友请求沈敬东为他的新音乐剧《小王子》绘制一幅海报。为此沈敬东读了《小王子》原著，然后他觉得这本书非常有意思：他认为小王子和他有着一个相似的想法，那就是他们都怀疑这个世界。因此，小王子成为了和士兵一样能代表艺术家自己去思考世界的人物，不同的是士兵代表中国军人的经历与情怀，小王子象征隐藏在成年人内心的童趣与本真。</p><p>The series of “the Little Prince” was created by chance. In 2014, a friend asked Shen to paint a post for his new musical the Little Prince. Thus, he read the novel the Little Prince and felt it’s an interesting book: he and the Little Prince have a similar idea that they all doubt the world. Therefore, the Little Prince, as same as Soldier, became a character that can represent the artist himself to think about the world. The difference between them is that Soldier represents the experience and feeling of Chinese serviceman, and the Little Prince signifies the innocence and conscience hided in the heart of adult.</p><i class="pic-con"><img src="//himg2.huanqiucdn.cn/attachment2010/2018/0808/19/09/20180808070947759.jpg?imageView2/2/w/1260" data-alt="小王子 The Little Prince"/></i><p>60×80cm</p><p>布面油画 Oil on canvas</p><p>2018</p><p>安托万·德·圣·埃克苏佩里说过《小王子》是一部写给成年人的童话。沈敬东提及过，在穿上军装之前，他早已立下了做艺术家的理想，并对当代艺术一直保持着相当的关注。在沈敬东遇见小王子之前，他那由简洁、光亮、幽默组成却暗含些许忧虑或悲伤的艺术风格就已经形成很久了。这与《小王子》的故事十分吻合。对沈敬东来说，或许小王子更像艺术家最初的自己。</p><p>Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said the Little Prince is a fairy tale for adult. Shen Jingdong mentioned, before wearing military uniform, he had decided to be an artist, and he kept his attention focused on contemporary art. Before Shen meeting the Little Prince, his artistic style, which consists of briefness, brightness, and humor but also contains a little uneasiness or grief, had been formed for a long time. This fits the story of the Little Prince very well. To Shen, maybe the Little Prince is more like the original self of the artist.</p><p>《枪炮玫瑰——沈敬东个展》将于2018年8月5日在北京侨福芳草地画廊开幕。在这次个展中，著名当代艺术家沈敬东将展示由军旅题材、童话元素、糖果质感与五彩光泽所构成的独一无二的艺术世界，其中大量展品为2018年的全新力作，沈敬东的士兵系列、小王子系列的作品也将在此展出。展览将会持续到9月15日，敬请关注。</p><p>“Guns N' Roses —— Shen Jingdong’s Solo Exhibition” will open in the gallery of Parkview Green, Aug. 5th,2018. In this solo-exhibition, the famous contemporary artist Shen Jingdong will show his unique art world constituted by theme of military, elements of fairy tale, texture of candy, and shinning of colors. A lot of exhibits are his recent artworks made in 2018, and Shen’s artworks of the Soldier series and the Little Prince series will also be shown here. The exhibition will last until Sept. 15th.
